Okay, that was terrible. Really bad. Guess I'll have to come up with a new slogan to promote soap making. Have I used that one before? Okay, what about "The Pope loves soap?" It has to be true, right? I guess I can't confirm that, though. "No need to mope- just use soap?" Hmmmm.....I'll have to mull it over for a while.
I gave a soap making presentation at Enrichment Night this past Wednesday, and I was so surprised at how well it was received. I'm not even sure how it became public knowledge that I make it. The 1st counselor in Relief Society just came up to me after sacrament meeting one Sunday and asked if I would give a demonstration. Soap making is quite labor intensive and takes at least an hour to make. Then it has to cure for a month before it can be used, so I just gave a presentation, passed around a hand-out, and gave everyone a small bar to take home. I expected to speak for 15 minutes, but I was up there for almost an hour answering questions! It was great. Afterwards, several people told me that I am an excellent teacher and I was on cloud 9!!! I never think of myself that way and it is always such a pleasant surprise to hear nice things about yourself. The theme of the evening was developing talents, and I don't really think of it as a talent- more like a hobby. I was asked to give a workshop where I actually make it for those sisters who are interested. Several people also asked why I don't sell it. My family has suggested it for a long time, and now with this extra boost of confidence I am thinking I might try to sell some at the local farmers market this summer!

We made Laundry detergent at our last meeting. I was so thankful to find the recipe! I mean, I think I'll save $1000 a year on laundry soap! And I'm sure that's what they other women were thinking. You people with your awesome talents blessing us all.
And I would totally buy your soap at a farmer's Market. I bet tons of people would too. I'm predicting Aramie will be a millionaire in 4-5 years.
Thanks, Bing! Did everyone make laundry detergent, because a sister in our branch also taught us to make liquid detergent. I wonder how well it cleans? We've got some dirty boys in this house!
i'm so glad it went so well! i think it is a pretty lost art and i'm glad that everyone was so impressed with you. i'm impressed with you. you really should sell it at the farmers market; i think that is a great idea. you'll be like the applesauce lady in Baby Boom! i personally like the Pope likes Soap idea. everyone who is holy (though that is questionable, but i'm pretty sure he prays, so that's a step in the right direction) likes soap. or maybe, "Can You Make Soap? Nope!" play on our insecurities and failings. anyway, i'm really glad it was such a good experience for you.
You people with your awesome talents blessing us all.
