Little Tootie Frances runs for Jon

Tonight was Peru's annual "Run For Jon." The "Run For Jon" is an organized race that raises money for local families who have children with serious medical problems. The race is named for Jonnie Evans, a 14-yr. old boy who died of a rare form of cancer in 1993. His parents are Don and Shirley Evans, and they are members of our branch.
In 1997 I was diagnosed with a brain tumor called an acoustic neuroma, and I had brain surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. The Evans insisted on giving my parents money to help defray travel expenses through the Jonnie fund. They are dear people, and we race every year in Jonnie's memory.
This year Tootie Francis ran the 1/2 mile Fun Run. I didn't expect her to run the entire way, but she sure did! The race takes place in an apple orchard about 1/2 a mile down the road from our house. When Tootie runs she doesn't bend her arms, and it is so cute! All of the kids who ran got a popsicle and a ribbon. She is so proud of that ribbon. I was scolding her tonight because she wouldn't get in bed, and she held her ribbon up to me and said "tell it to the judge, pal!" She seems to think it works like a sheriff's badge or something.
