The Pink Bird of Happiness

I really love the color pink. It may be juvenile, and I'm sure that someday soon some other color, like orange, will be the new pink, but my love for pink will never waiver! I can still remember being around 5 years old and going to the store with mom for some new dress shoes. Should I choose a sensible brown mary jane that would match nearly everything I owned? Absolutely not. Perhaps a lovely black t-strap to go with my large collection of stirrup pants? Never! I chose a heavenly, glorious pair of pink patent leather slip-ons with a grosgrain bow at the toe. Hill chose red. It was her favorite color then. Thanks, mom, for letting us dress ourselves. I am a Kacey-dressing Nazi. She has been asking "does this match?" since she could speak in sentences.
My favorite movie back in those days was none other than Pretty In Pink. I rented it every single birthday, and probably still would except that now I own it on dvd. I always loved Duckie. I suppose most girls would have gone for the rich guy Blaine, but even back then I could tell that he looked like a terrible kisser. Come on, Andie! Wake up! The Duck-Man had it all! Blaine wore pleated white linen pants and loafers with no socks! Barf!
My love of pink is still going strong. My KitchenAid mixer is pink, as are all of my kitchen accessories. My bedroom lamps are pink, and the list continues. Hillary, please assure my audience that this is all tastefully done. I am not like that crazy lady I saw on VH1 once who loves pink so much she takes her poodle in once a week to be dyed pink.
Anyway, yesterday as I was perusing our local antique mall (I will share another story about this place at a later date), I came across this big, fat clay bird that is painted the perfect shade of light pink. I bought it for $5. It is so cute. Will it serve a specific purpose? No. Do I have just the right place in mind for it to perch? No. Pink just makes me happy, the way that blue does for others. So, my big, fat, pink bird of happiness will find a place somewhere where I will see it often, and it will serve as a reminder to me of all the reasons I have to be happy. Pink birds of happiness just have a way of doing that.

I would love to see a picture of your pink bird of happiness.

Yellow has always been and will always be my favorite color. I have loved sunflowers forever, as far back as I can remember. I will have to type the story of when I was driving my best friends babysitter home and I had her help me steal the sunflowers out of the sunflower field. Good times.

Aramie, we both know that IF you had a poodle, you would have it dyed pink. I guess Sophie is lucky she has a dark coat...
