A moment of silence, please

Well, I have to say that Laramie's plight is small potatoes compared to today's shocking news. I just got word that my hero, nay, my alter ego, passed away today. Yes, friends, Estelle Getty is dead. She was best known as Sophia Petrillo, her character from the much loved 80's sitcom The Golden Girls. Many of you know that this is my favorite tv show EVER. I have every season on dvd, so you can imagine my shock and dismay. She was only 84- a mere sprig of a girl. I will never forget you, Sophia. Ciao.
Thank you Gigi for your condolences.

I'm like Erin. I saw it on Fox News yesterday afternoon and you were the first one I thought of. I didn't even think of her poor family, just you and your poor broken heart.

I love that show and have been a fan for years. My favorite ep. was when the girls got robbed and Blanche was at the police station and she wanted to spray her hair with hairspray but it was mace.

So I am glad not that Estelle has gone
But that the earth she laughed and live on
was my earth too.
That I had known and loved her,
And that my love I'd shown.
Tears over her departure?
Nay, a smile
that I walked with her a little while.

I was listening to the radio this morning about that. They had it all over the Today Show. This women was loved. They were mentioning how popular this show was and how it is a little wierd the people it attracted. Young girls and gay men. I think it is actually a pretty accurate statement. What was it about the show that was so good? I started to wonder. But I watched it and it caught alot of hearts.

oh, Estelle. your wyles and your wit and your perfect comedic timing remain unmatched. as the theme song to your show echoes in the halls of my home, i credit you with a lot of the vocabulary that has entered my life, such as the word "oonie". i hope to be an old, horrible woman like your character was. if i make it to the Celestial Kingdom, i hope we can be buddies.
