The true meaning of Cinco de Mayo

And so it was on this day in the year 1862 that a small Mexican army defeated French troops at the battle of Puebla. Contrary to popular belief, it is not Mexico's independence day. That is September 16th.

It was also on this blessed day in 1978 that Matthew Alma Christopherson was born. This is a photo of him with our 8-year old niece Gillian. He has blessed my life so immensly and I am so in love with him. This is what love should feel like for everyone. Thank you, thank you Matt, for being my dream come true. Happy Birthday, honey.

My sister in law is Mexican and she says that in Mexico, Cinco de Mayo is nothing. It is much bigger in America! It would be like the Canadians going nuts on July 21st in celebration for the United states. Everyone has a cheeseburger and sits around feeling smug.

(July 21st is, of course, the date of the First Battle of Bull Run. But I'm sure I don't have to tell you that, right?)

And you deserve all the happiness in the world. I am glad you have found it.
