Mr. Alligator?!?

The thing I fear most in this world are alligators. I'm not kidding. Masked assailant waking me from my sleep and demanding all my money? No. Natural disasters like earthquakes and tornados? Not in the least. Only alligators leave me paralyzed with fear.
Once Joey and I went to Jekyll Island just to drive around and check it out. As we drove slowly around a bend in the road, I spotted something walking on the bike trail. I made Joey back up a bit so that I could see it again. Yes, it was an alligator, out for an afternoon stroll. My guess is that it was hoping to take an innocent walker or bike rider by surprise. My pre-school kids used to love that story.
I also dream about alligators. When I am in a state of terrible stress or sadness I will dream that I am standing on a rock in a river or lake, and that I can see hundreds upon hundreds of them under the water. I am stuck on the rock, and if I want to get off I will have to get in the water. Again- I am paralyzed with fear and never get off the rock before I wake up. Isn't that weird? What are you afraid of? And don't say something bad happening to your kids because we all worry about that. I'm talking about something physical, not hypothetical!

Heights and earthquakes. I wake up in sweats when I dream about those or when I'm awake around those. I'm starting to get sweating just typing this comment.

lizards, which i guess are like alligators. maybe it's hereditary. man, lizards freak me out. i will straight wrestle an anaconda before i'll enter the same space as a lizard. i think it's the sudden movements that freak me out. and the childhood experience where i was attacked by a lizard. and the fact that a lizard killed my parents and left me a lone orphan in the wilderness.

My wife has been fighting alligators in her sleep since we moved to GA in 2000 ... She says it's always her trying to protect our kids from the alligator. I am afraid of snakes, frogs and sharks in reality ... In my dreams the things that give me nightmares are rattlesnakes, looking into caskets and the body moving and taking off from an airport and the plane can never get higher than the powerlines before crashing.

Sandy, I never feared alligators until we moved to GA too! I would strangle a rattle snake with my bare hands before I would get near an alligator!
And Courtney, I also hate fish. Sharks especially. I think it goes back to the time that my brother put a shark's head on a long stick and chased me down the beach until I peed my pants in terror! Sounds like Nate, doesn't it?

Evil spirits. I was watching Animal Planet the other day and it was about this haunted house that some lady unknowingly bought. It was haunted by abused monkeys that had been killed as a result of medical testing. I saw a total of like two minutes of the show and it FREAKED me out. It took me a couple of days before I could go to bed w/o scanning the room for paranormal activity.

I have never seen... what's that movie???... "I see dead people." Whatever that movie is-- I won't watch it. I know I wouldn't be able to sleep for weeks!

Sarah, I saw a commercial- JUST a commercial for that old tv show Buffy The Vampire Slayer (not the awesome 80's movie), and I had a nightmare that night that I was being chased by vampires!!! I too am very easily freaked out!

Sharks and my teeth falling out. I hate that dream. And don't go looking at what Frued said about it, it just isn't true. I want to know the real reason why my teeth fall out. I think it has something to do with losing control. I guess I am a bit of a control freak.

I am scared to death of the Ocean. Not sure when the fear started....in Hawaii some time. I used to swim in the Ocean all the time, but now I fear everything in it...from the jelly fish to the sharks!!!!

Me too Elizabeth! I will go in just above my ankles, but anything beyond that is too risky!
