So, most of you know that I am back in school this year after taking a long break. My original plan was to continue working toward a degree in education, but that plan is currently on the back burner for a variety of reasons. I had to go with my back-up plan, so my major now is art history with a minor in museum studies. My dad rolls his eyes when I talk about the things I am learning because he doesn't think it is a practical (or lucrative) direction for me to take. Well, maybe not, but for the first time in my life I am actually enjoying school.
The painting on the left is a Van Gogh titled Cypresses. I've never met anyone who doesn't like Van Gogh. His most recognizable work is titled Starry Night, and it is easy to understand why it is so popular. It is truly awe inspiring. I love his landscapes, and especially those with these towering Italian cypress trees (cypress trees appear in many of his paintings). They are so beautiful and almost seem to come alive on the canvas. Amazing. Do you have a favorite work of art? Tell me about it!

Glad for the update, I didn't know you were back in school and had a new major in mind. Good for you! Enjoy.
glad to have you back. i don't appreciate the old classic art the way a cultured person might, though i am a fan of rembrandt. as you know, my favorite piece of art ever is Liz Lemon Swindle's "Hope", which i ordered from LDS-ART almost a year ago and never recieved. bastards! i'm glad you are enjoying school and i think it's a great major---being a museum director would be a dream job.
That's my favorite picture by Van Gogh. One of my all time favorite paintings is Degas' Blue Dancers. It's so soothing and the colors are amazing.
Van Gogh SUCKS! I should just go out there and paint a picture and then take a dump on it and call it art. I bet it would be worth money. ............Just kidding, I like to get a rise out of you. I was serious about my painting though. ----Dustin
Van Gogh rocks. This particular painting was in my high school Jr. English class and I would stare at it for hours. Better than writing an essay on "Ethan Fromme" i promise!!
Anyway, I love how art is so specific to people. How it can mean something to one person, and something else entirely to someone else.
Did I just blow your mind? (Probably not, that was pretty basic crap just there)
My fav painting is "The Storm" by Pierre Auguste-Cot. I've included a link for you. I like it because the boy reminds me of my husband. I don't know why, maybe the dark hair. Anyway here's the link
