Trashic was what I am calling my sense of style these days. Not so much my wardrobe, more my decorating style. I thought "well, I am sort of shabby chic, garage sale, dumpster, Antiques Roadshow." So instead of being "tre chic", I am "trashic". Maybe Tasha can tell me if this term really exists! Dad and I went to a couple of garage sales on Saturday morning, and we came home with all kinds of stuff! We found a really great doll house for Kacey for $5. I got a fantastic bench that needs a little tlc (paint). It's very sturdy and only cost $3. I also got a couple of beautiful lamps that have these Romanesque female figures carrying pots on their heads for $3 for the pair. Lastly, I got this enormous silver-plate platter for 25 cents. Fabulous! Lots of projects to keep me busy until I die! Those of you who live in big cities should be able to outfit your entire home with garage sale findings for a fraction of what it would normally cost you! Here in the north country I seem to find an endless supply of NASCAR lamps and shot glasses. No thanks. My Aunt Sue is a die-hard garage sale-goer and GoodWill shopper. She always looks great and so does her home. My suggestion is to look at the garage sale listings in your paper on Friday and map out a route. Start with the sales closest to your house and move out from there. You have to get up early and plan to hit the sales as soon as they are open. You'll miss the good stuff if you wait and go later.
My post is going to be short today because I just have too much to do. I need to transplant lots of plants into the garden (hooray for sunshine!!), make bread for dinner tonight (trying yet another new recipe), clean every room in the house, do laundry, and on and on.
I had a coupon for a free sandwich at McDonalds, so I got the new Southern Style chicken sandwich. Now, those of you who are blessed with a Chic-Fil-A (is that how it's spelled?) will not appreciate this delicious sandwich because it is clearly an attempt at duplicating the Chic-Fil-A chicken sandwich. I am in love! Finally- a chicken sandwich at McDonald's that doesn't taste like something from the high school cafeteria (no offense to those of you who liked the food in the cafeteria).

I loved the square pizza. But I am so not offended. Pictures are the only thing that would have made this post better. I would love to see a pic of the ladies with the pots on their heads.
I agree with everything Amanda said. I love the school pizza with ranch dressing and would also love to see pictures! I also have to say, that if you are ever out and see anything Tony Stewart at the garage sales.....that would be Nascar #20. Orange and black, Home Depot.....then pick it up for me and I'll pay you back. LOLOLOLOL Only I'm serious! I LOVE Nascar!!!! Huge Tony Stewart fan!!
I love to go to yardsales I just cant ever get up early enough to get to them! You can some some great things sometimes.
I use to do that when my boys were little. I bought their play clothes and lots of books from yardsales. I still have some of the books I bought for Harrison and now I read them to Shelby. One of my favorites is "Harry and the Lady Next Door" Harry is a dog and the book was written and published in 1957, the year I was born. I bought the other Harry books off e-bay. Shelby loves those too.
my favorite cafeteria food was the heart-healthy corn-dogs with fried okra. delicious. top it off with some delicious whole chocolate milk and i was in heaven. sorry, i just threw up in my mouth a little. you always get killer deals everywhere. i, on the other hand, bought a little table (which smelled curiously like play-dough) from d.i. for $20. what? yeah. and now, 2 years later, it's going right back to d.i. where it will be sold for yet another $20 to a girl with a desire to be artsy like her sister, but lacks the talent and initiative. ey A.J.-- i've got a whole porch full of old crap. feel like going shopping? maybe you'll find some old St. Olaf war bonds in there.
I think it runs in the family, Nate loves going to DI to find good deals. My dad has a gift for finding things, not only good deals but also just finding things. He was driving down the road and found a brand new bathtub (still in the wrapping)that had fallen out of a truck. And once, again driving, he found a new generator sitting on the side of the road. I really envy you "deal junkies"
I have to say, that is a new word for me, but I like it! Misty is the best deal finder i know and I envy her ability to hit goodwill at the exact time and day and find the best stuff. She has saved thousands by shopping there for her kids. When, If, I get pregnant, i am putting her in charge of an allowance to find me baby stuff. Good luck with your projects. Sounds like you are going to be busier!
I'm not very successful when it comes to garage sales. I never go alone and on the odd occasion I do go with someone they always end up with the good stuff. I went with a friend about a month ago to a huge garage sale sponsored by the Savannah Morning News and had a little bit of luck there. I got a brand new VCR for $10 ... I know they're outdated, but the kids still have so many tapes ... I got 4 never been opened Whoopee cushions for $1.00 ... I thought it was time my kids had some real fun ... however, they were really old whoopee cushions and two of them were so dry rotted they were useless ... I also got a fleece blanket, tupperware container and a marble chess set all for $3 ... okay, scratch that first sentence.
hey Barney's Friend Chris---awesome garage saling! especially 4 whoopies for a buck? sweet action. my toddler LOVES whoopie cushions. not that she needs one---i swear she's got one smuggled in her diaper all the time. especially at church and when the missionaries come over to eat.
Aramie, where are you? I'm going through withdrawls and it ain't pretty.
