Oh boy! Today Kacey got her kindergarten immunizations. They gave her 5 shots. Is that a normal amount? I didn't tell her what we were there for until the Dr. came in. I don't know if that seems cruel, but I didn't want her to worry and be scared any longer than was necessary. I made my dad go with me because I knew I would need help. He held her arms down and I held her feet! She screamed and carried on up until they gave her the first shot- I guess she realized that it wasn't as bad as she had anticipated. I thought they were going to have to scrape me up off of the floor. I get that tunnel vision, cold sweats, blacking-out sensation very quickly in medical situations. I know it must seem funny because I always seem to be in a medical situation. Anyway, she did very well after that. We went to lunch at Subway and then Kacey got to pick out a toy. She chose a Princess Giselle (from Enchanted) make-up set. Hooray. Waxy, glittery fake lipstick and gooey, glittery nail polish.
I hope that my post from yesterday didn't give anyone the impression that I was boasting about my compost pile. I mean, as far as compost piles go, mine stinks. Ha ha! No Aramie, that wasn't funny. What I mean is that I am just trying to do a few things to improve the world around me. We all do what we can, but I don't have a Toyota Prius, no solar panels on my roof, and I don't have a cistern to collect rain water. I wish I did have those things, but my point is that I am just a tiny speck on this planet doing what little a tiny speck can do.
One thing that I want to do but don't think I will be able to do for a while is to stop eating packaged, processed foods. Slow and steady wins the race, right? One thing at a time.
Has anyone out there ever seen a Rick Steve's travel show on PBS? I love Rick Steves!!! He is a travel writer who has been visiting Europe every year for 30 or so years. I love him because he goes to Europe and spends as little money as possible. He stays in hostels or bed & breakfasts- where ever he can get a relatively comfortable bed for cheap. He mixes with the locals where ever he goes, eats where the locals eat and has a great time really experiencing the culture of the countries that he visits. I'm not saying that I don't enjoy a nice hotel and a fancy meal, but isn't the point of travel to learn as much as you can about a place? I don't think that many people in, say, Venice, Italy eat at 5 star restaurants every night. Anway, I have all of his travel shows on dvd and I watch them when Kacey goes to sleep and dream of the places I will go some day. One thing I have noticed is that you never see people eating stuff from a box in these other countries. Everything is fresh. They eat with the seasons instead of eating out of cans. In a lot of places they do their grocery shopping each day to get what they need only for that day. It seems overwhelming, but if you were only buying 4 or 5 things and it was part of your daily routine I guess it would be different. Oh well, maybe someday I will be in the south of France like you see in the movies, and I will have a baguette in my bag and a bouqet of sunflowers! Oh, and of course my beret. I don't know why I wrote so much about that. Now you know a little more about the workings of my boring mind.........
Hillary corrected a mistake I made in my blog yesterday. I said that I lost my glasses while snowboarding and that I had a roommate that wore granny panties and turned the thermostat up to 90 degrees. Apparently Hillary was my roommate when I lost my glasses. Sorry Hill. My Ricks days all seem to blend together. So, while I did have a roommate who wore granny panties and turned the thermostat up to 90, it was not Hillary. I repeat, NOT Hillary. It was a very strange girl who I was convinced was going to try to kill me in my sleep. NOT Hillary.
It was in the 50's and sunny today. Beautiful.

come on Aramie, you know it was you in the granny panties!
Sorry about school shots. I really wish we didn't have to do that to our babies. It was until I was 12 or 13 before they had to quit holding me down for shots. I was so terrified of needles. It's only been in the last few years that I've been able to give Harry an insulin shot. He's nuts, he's let Shelby give him a shot several times. I get to nervous to watch. You know how nuts our household is.
Ewwwe, We hate shots, my girls always get so grouchy after those darn things...and i know what you mean about the amount... They just keep sticking them. Unfortunately its always 4 or 5. I know what your saying about the people who go to the little markets everyday & buy fresh produce & veggies & there little loaf of fresh bread...how dreamy...mabye someday!
For now, I love shot day......not the actual act of giving the shots, but when it is done, my kids just sleep all day long. I love it!!!
